“We will produce safe, legal, sustainable quality halal food that complies with  halal requirements and is independently approved by reputable halal certification bodies”

Halal Principles/Requirements: Whilst the public generally understand Halal to be a label relating to meat slaughtered in a particular way, the term is actually applied to all aspects of life and simply means ‘permissable’ under Islamic law. The opposite of Halal is Haram which means prohibited.

From a consumer perspective, anything containing non-permissible animal-based products or alcohol can be considered Haram. The two terms are therefore most commonly applied to meat and other food products (for example many sweets contain gelatine), as well as to cosmetics, personal care product, clothing (for example leather) and pharmaceuticals.

At Shazans Foods our meat & poultry is prepared/slaughtered according to Islamic law and adheres to the following principles

  • Muslims are taught through the Qu’ran that all animals should be treated with respect and be well cared for. Our slaughter men are highly trained to carry out the slaughter under strict welfare conditions.
  • All animals are to be alive & healthy at the point of slaughter
  • All slaughtering is to be carried out by hand, by a Muslim
  • The animals are slaughtered with a swift incision to the throat from a razor sharp blade while reciting the Tasmiyah.
  • Any flowing blood from the carcass is completely drained.
  • The meat must be handled diligently to prevent any cross-contamination with haram products.

We work very closely with a number of reputable halal accreditation bodies who supervise our production facilities to independently ensure that our meat & poultry is treated and prepared according to principles set out above & complies with their requirements for approval.

All Shazans products are vetted and approved on a case by case basis by the Halal Bodies to ensure that they do not contain any non-permissible animal-based products or alcohol that can be considered Haram.

Shazan products only use meat, poultry & ingredients from sites approved by these Halal Accreditation Bodies.
